Hello All!

I have been kicking around the idea of hosting a St.Patty's day Green chile cookoff at my home next month on March 20th (the Saturday after St. Pattys) not sure on the start time yet. Have a handful of friends (not members of GG) that are into it, but to do it up right I would need help with the serving for each contestant, bartending, mc, ballots, judging, coordination/ set up,etc. and hoping to recruit some volunteers. Just wanted to test the waters a bit and see what kind of interest I got back from the group. Here are my intial ideas for the event : First and Best- It would be a free event- would simply ask that everyone bring a potluck dish - preferably something that would compliment green chile. Entry fee would be 20 bucks and a large crockpot full of your tastiest green chile recipe, with cash prizes for 1st place and 2nd place in 2 categories. The more entries the bigger the pot. (no pun intended) My Lakewood home is quite modest, but with a large unfinished basement that would fit the bill. This is afterall the Ghetto Gourmet right? Could be alot of fun, just need the support of the group to pull it off. If interested in participating please drop me an email: kristina757@hotmail.com and let me know either what you would be bringing as a potluck- to avoid duplicate dishes- or if you would like to help organize. If the response is a good one I'll have more information available to you all soon. Looking forward to hearing from you!

Hey that sounds like a really neat idea. Chili makes me cry (spicey food wuss), but good luck if you can make this happen!
Thanks Alice! Sure to be lots of fun. Maybe worth coming just to watch the judging. I envision it going down "Iron Chef" style with each contestant facing the panel of judges individually for added drama.
sounds cool, if I am in town, I am down with some chili cook off. Trophy too?
Hi Tripp! Thanks for your interest! As for a trophy, that remains to be seen. Hoping the idea catches on. Will post an update next week for those that are interested. Ciao!
Hi everyone, sorry for last minute news. I seriously thought about canceling this due to lack of interest, but at the last minute decided to scale back and do it any way just for the heck of it. Having a casual no entry fee or cash pot- bragging rights only- laid back affair. So far between my family and friends we have 3 cooks and about 15 people coming(some with children),and 0 GG members cooking/attending. so if anyone is still interested in competing or attending please respond to my personal email : kristina757@hotmail.com. It is this saturday 3/20 @ 7pm at my lakewood home. Thanks! look forward to hearing from you. Cheers! Kristina

Ladies enjoying the meals they have created

This was a singles cooking party, but the guys never showed up because it was raining, so the ladies made it into a ladies night out, so much fun. #simplycaribbean #trinisoulcooking
