Hello

Thanks for joining GG Denver. I hope you are all aware that this is going to be huge!!!

I met with some friends last night who are involved is different aspects of service industry (chefs, bartenders, DJs, promoters), and we are going to really give Denver something to talk about.

It is kind of growing in different directions, so I want to get some feedback from you all about what you would like to see.

Truth be told, I started this group as a way to meet some cool new people and throw some cool parties. I love to cook and I love to eat good food, so that is my primary focus. Some fine dining dinners, some more casual mixer events, some cooking classes. In addition to having dinner parties, I think this also offers a good opportunity for people just to get out and eat together. I was just at a restaurant that does a 3-course lobster dinner for 30 bucks.

If you would all please just comment back on what you would like to see, what you would like to offer, and a few party ideas.

I will be having a Nyotaimori party, but that will be later once we really get this group built. So make sure you are spreading the word.

Another will be the Ghetto Gourmet Summer Park Series. It would be sort of a traveling picnic if you will.

I look forward to eating with you all very soon.

Eric

Thanks for organizing this! I like lots of different events, home wine or beer tastings (w/food paring too), sushi making parties, bbq's, pot lucks, etc. I love the picnic idea for the Summer Park Series. Personally I'm more on the casual side, but I like to push my comfort zone, even if that means getting a little fancy!
I think that I would like to see a mix of everything. I am a bartender and so I can help you out with that. I would like to get together and have casual dinings but every once in awhile spice it up with something a little more formal. :)
I love this idea! Personally, I believe the first few meetings might work better at a restaurant. This way we can all get to know each other. I am up for trying anything. I generally stay in the downtown/uptown/capital hill area when I go out, but I would love to experience different areas of Denver. A fantastic restaurant with a great atmosphere and family style servings is Osteria Marco in Larimer Square. This is just an idea. I can't wait!!!!
This is wonderful. I just moved back to Denver and there are so many new restaurants, I don't even know where to start. I think it would be great to have a night out to meet everyone and start putting a party or two in the works, and I'm happy to help in any way I can. Looking forward to getting this under way!
the weekend is here at last, is there anything going down in the mile high????
Where in the Highlands? This sounds awesome. We live near Sloan's Lake, so we're close by!!
I'm so glad you did this. I had totally intended to start a Denver group last year when I joined. We had an empty basement apartment and had hoped to host some dinners down there, but then tenants moved in and life happened. We both love the idea of GG. My partner is a chef and I'm just an adventurer who likes to play in the kitchen. My big thing is sharing. I love to serve and just watch peoples faces as they eat the food I had something to do with. :) So, we'll help wherever we can.

I also love the idea of underground locations all the way around vs. restaurants. That's the whole point. Also, I see alot of fans of casual dining, so you're covered there. We actually love putting on a five or six course meal with matching wines, etc. and especially if it has a theme. Good for you for finally taking the bull by the horns in Denver.
Definitely up for all of the ideas posted thus far. I make a knockout grilled cheese especially great for picnics in the summer. Maybe we do a meet up for one of those in conjunction with the Film on the Rocks series or something? I live out toward Lakewood and would be happy to host a smaller dinner/meet up at some point. I had the idea a while ago to do a cookbook club - less about the cookbook itself, and more about a book and cooking to kind of match the story line. Dinner conversation perhaps.

Thanks for the invite and organization, Eric. I look forward to contributing in any way I can.

I'll throw out two theme suggestions - dumpling night and hot pot.

I have a friend who's great at the dumpling thing, could possibly turn it into a bit of a class.

Hot pot could be anything from cheese fondue to shabu shabu.

Aw heck, while we're at it - Dip night. Mac n' Cheese night. Sandwich night. Dirty south comfort food night.
I am working on dirty south comfort food night. You will be pleasantly surprised when the menu appears as a "secret supper". Pretty well known local chef from the south who isn't cooking southern food here in denver.

Thanks for the great ideas
Oh baby! bring on the fried food and baked goodies..man I miss me some Southern cooking..Been gone from the deep South 20 years now..Count me in Eric.

I would totally be into doing some cooking for these events. Maybe we could do progressive dinners around town at different small local restaurants
