The Ghetto Gourmet

Come join us on Oct 19th, 2009 for the next Soup Stone Supper.

Soup Stone is:

As described in Bon Appetite Magazine this month: "Soup Stone, in Oakland, California, hosts dinners to which guests bring ingredients- and ideas, such as those that have yielded a zine, a youth philanthropy organization, and a nonprofit news bureau." So bring a friend, bring something for the group, and bring your ideas. All are welcome at our table.

October's Featured Guest: Oakland Local

I've had the fortune of meeting Susan Mernit through some of our other dinner guests. Susan Mernit is the founder of Oakland Local, a news & community hub for Oakland, CA focused on environmental, food, development and social justice issues, and the recipient of a 2009 New Voices grant from J-Lab at American University. A former VP at AOL and Netscape, and a former Yahoo Senior Director, Mernit was the consulting program manager for The Knight News Challenge in 2008-09, as well as a consultant to organizations including Salon.com & TechSoup Global, where she led the re-design of their portal. A popular trainer and speaker, Mernit works regularly with The Knight Digital Media Center at USC's Annenberg School, and with The Maynard Institute, and is the Keynote program chair for the October 2009 Online News Association conference in San Francisco.

Oakland Local is launching this Fall. Don't miss this opportunity to talk to Susan and her collaborators and see how you can get involved in this exciting new project.
