Hey Ben. Welcome! I don't think I ever got your email address. Drop me a note at carrieobry@gmail.com and we can connect.

Well, I have finally moved to MSP! I was hoping that there might be a gathering in the next month or so. If there isn't one planned, I can certainly help plan and implement it!

The Ghetto Gourmet (A bunch of "crazy plates")

A recent article in the Times, The Artful Dodger, has quickly been marked as one of my favorites. Diane Root so casually writes about a family meal she shared as a young girl in Nice, France, with no one other than . . . Picasso.

First, she describes their meal: pissaladière, mounds of moules marinières, a flurry of pommes frites, brandade de morue (the "requisite" ratatouille), aioli to slather on bread, and multiple bottles of pélure… Continue

GGMSP, off without a hitch

The first MSP Ghetto Gourmet was a smash! We served a 5-course meal for 16 friends.

• Butternut squash and green apple soup with a curry/bell pepper garnish

• Pink lady apple cups with celeraic cherry slaw

• Argula salad with fennel, baked ricotta, and saffron

• Cassoulet (a French dish with white beans, tomatoes, lamb, duck, and sausage)

• Pots of chocolate with orange polenta cookies

As a huge food fan, I usually look back on everything I make and… Continue

Whenever I get ready to throw a party, I can't help but think of Virgina Woolf's famous first line from Mrs. Dalloway: "Mrs. Dalloway said she would buy the flowers herself." She was a highly privileged woman, after all, but she insists on no help from her sevants, thank you, and no ride to the flower shop. She was throwing a party that night, and more than anything, she wanted to go walk through the streets of London to pick… Continue

Ghet up, stand up!

Dear friends,

The Ghetto Girls are your friends Angela and Carrie, and this is an invitation to our new social dining project.

A few months ago, daydreaming about finding new outlets for creativity, we realized we were having similar ideas. At the same time Carrie was imagining casual conversation featuring classic dishes for good friends, Angela was testing recipes to gain enough experience to moonlight as a caterer one day.

Together, we’d like to feed our… Continue

how about May 10?

Ang and Carrie's dinner concoction turned speakeasy turned Ghetto Gourmet. Whatever we call it, I'm sure we'll meet new people and eat good food.
