Just wanted to send some congratulations to Dennis and Mary over at the
Hidden Kitchen in Sacramento. They came to a Ghetto Gourmet event in Fruitvale back in 2005, and they have been cookin' it up in Sacramento ever since.
This week they were voted
"Best Underground DinnerParty" in the Sacramento News and Review, and, while the competition was fierce, I'm glad they're…

I'm a huge Ghetto Gourmet enthusiast, so when I agreed to help some friends with an upcoming event they are hosting this was the first place I thought of to go to for help. The friends I speak of just started a non-profit theater group in NYC and are holding a fund-raising event next month that is in dire need of a talented chef who can provide their services (and some awesome food!) for the evening. We are looking for a chef who can produce a variety of appetizers (nothing has to come out hot…

Heather Gold is a bi-coastal (SF-NYC) performer, interviewer, comedian and all-round creative head, and she's got a new thing going on in NYC called
Lunch. I particularly liked reading this little tidbit on her website:
"People are interested in each other. Performance has always been a way of having a unifying collective experience. Today, live performance has an opportunity to do what Congress, towns,…

This past Sunday, September 21, Nancy G. hosted a cozy Canvas lunch in her newly planted succulent garden in Glen Park, San Francisco. About 20 guests trickled in, having heard about the event from friends, the
New York Times, and even Meetup.com! By the end of the meal, everyone was chatting with each other as if they were old friends.

Chef Peter Jackson popped…

We went to
Ippudo on 10th St & 4th Ave, NYC. I was not sure who would show. Four GG’er had messaged that they were in. On day of I heard from Gaya and Tricia. I had…

The
discussion continues about the implications, legality and liability of "underground restaurants", "collaborative dining projects", and "bake sales". Yes, bake sales.
It's interesting how the idea of "social dining" is demonstrating how the power of the internet is forcing us to reconsider simple ideas. When is someone a stranger? What if i have never met someone in person, but i have been…

Mira, Evan and I are thinking of going on a buying trip for dim sum on Saturday, and then coming back to my place in Manhattan for a potluck. We would like those with an expertise in making Chinese cuisine to make some dim sum specialties to add to the store-boughts- I'm planning on making tea eggs (yum!) and providing some interesting tea. Is anyone interested in joining us? Which day would be better for you? If we do this on Sunday, it would have to be early, since I have an appointment at…

I'm trying to think of a name for my fantasy supper club. I thought of 'The Secret Kitchen Club' or 'The Hidden Kitchen Club'. I want something that is mysterious, and can fit with a changing food theme. 'The Secret Lounge' and 'The Hidden Lounge' also came to mind- I'm not very imaginative tonight. Any ideas?
