About Me:
I've been cooking since the age of 4. I'm now planning on going to cooking school. My dream has always been to have a salon where good food, wine and conversation were served up in equal measures. I'm willing to do whatever work is asked me to help produce a great experience- no work is too menial.

I am very interested in running my own supper club. Ideally, it would be one that would explore various eras and places, with food, music and performances. For instance, I would like to produce a Titanic-style dinner for the holidays, a sophisticated night in Weimar Republic Berlin, a night in a 1920's Shanghai club, a night in a 30's southern juke-joint, a Victorian-era tea dance, and so on. I want to provide people with a total sensory experience, even if it can't really be on the scale of places like the old Cotton Club and other places.

So, if you have an interest in history and food, if you play musical instruments or dance or simply have a iPod full of interesting music, if you've always wanted to make great food for a discerning audience the way I hope to do, please contact me. Join us as we celebrate fall by shopping in Chinatown, and then putting together some wonderful dim sum! We encourage you to cook and bring your own dim sum specialty. We will be shopping for some delicious extras, and then set up some tables for a delicious brunch.

Dim Sum, Saturday or Sunday

Mira, Evan and I are thinking of going on a buying trip for dim sum on Saturday, and then coming back to my place in Manhattan for a potluck. We would like those with an expertise in making Chinese cuisine to make some dim sum specialties to add to the store-boughts- I'm planning on making tea eggs (yum!) and providing some interesting tea. What's in a name?

I'm trying to think of a name for my fantasy supper club. I thought of 'The Secret Kitchen Club' or 'The Hidden Kitchen Club'. I want something that is mysterious, and can fit with a changing food theme. 'The Secret Lounge' and 'The Hidden Lounge' also came to mind- I'm not very imaginative tonight. Any ideas?

Looking for fellow bento lovers

Before it gets cold, are there any people who would like to get together to make bentos and then engage in some outdoor dining, perhaps in a park? I'm a fan of Just Bento and Lunch in a Box, and would like to work on technique. (Edited after receiving comments) Perhaps it might be best to have a small class next weekend at my apartment on bento? I love ALL good food, and my family is huge into Chinese and Indonesian. durian, natto, pig intestines, name it. :)

That is cool you like bento. I have been cooking in the city about 6 years now mostly in Asian type cuisine. Let me know when you would be interested in cooking together or throw a party. Maybe I could give you some culinary advice. If it is easier my email is jtshen@hotmail.com
